CIS 208 - Web Animation


Description
This course is designed to introduce computer animation concepts and techniques to students with little or no previous experience with animation software. Students work with the various tools and objects available in animation software, create and manipulate multilayered graphics, work with animation frames and tweening, write Action Script 3 to make the graphics interactive, and publish graphics for use.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate skill using drawing and editing tools to create and manipulate content to be used in a fully interactive web site.

  2. Create and manipulate multi-layered graphics.

  3. Write ActionScript to allow users to interact with the site, navigating from page to page and selecting different movie options.

  4. Create scenes and incorporate them into more complex movies.

  5. Define and use variables and conditional actions to create complex interactivity.

  6. Publish a website for use.

  7. Create and/or organize data and information into meaningful patterns in order to interpret and draw inferences from it. 

  8. Demonstrate how to upload Flash movie to the web and obtain URL for others to view.

  9. Create variables, functions, use predefined Math functions and use mouse events in ActionScript.

  10. Use ActionScript to move between frames in movie.

  11. Effectively organize communications ensuring there is a clear introduction and conclusion, the content is well sequenced, and there are appropriate transitions. 

  12. Understand the role of context, audience, and purpose when developing a communication.

The instructor must possess knowledge of the Flash environment, 4000 hours of animation experience, knowledge of the ActionScript 3 programming, a basic background in object oriented programing, and, above all, be able to clearly explain all topics covered in the course so that the student will be able to understand the concepts taught.
