ANE 261 - Anesthesia Technology Clinical II Description This course is the second of three externship experiences, focusing on integrating theory, simulation, and practical skills acquired from previous didactic coursework to be applied in the clinical and patient care setting. The student will progressively function as a member of the Anesthesia Care Team. Interact professionally with vendors and other departments. Students must maintain a weekly case log of all procedures and detailed case reports of processes involving direct patient care. 1. Demonstrate daily interaction as a productive member of the surgical team.
2. Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed in the OR based on procedural and patient needs.
3. Demonstrate competency in opening and preparing the supplies and instruments necessary for the procedure while maintaining an aseptic technique.
4. Perform the daily activities of the anesthesia technologist under the direct supervision of a mentoring staff member.
5. Exhibit punctuality, consistency, and dedication
6. Illustrate competence by efficiently preparing the anesthesia workstation in cardiac, orthopedic, thoracic, neurological, vascular, spinal fusion, and trauma procedure rooms.
7. Identify which surgical interventions would require one-lung ventilation and how to prepare for the surgical case properly.
8. Illustrate comprehension of blood gas analysis
9. Recite proper technique when assisting with arterial line placement.
10. Demonstrate proper technique when constructing pressure transducers.
11. Identify proper techniques when assisting with intravenous line placements.
12. Illustrate the differences between the difficult airway cart and the bronchoscope cart, along with stocking or restocking.
13. Identify and contrast the difference between the medical intravenous pumps available for patients.
14. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the ultrasound machine when assisting with a patient nerve block attempt in either pre-operative or intra-operative settings.
15. Describe the situations where the GlideScope might be required
16. Exhibit competence when constructing and properly assisting with the patient fluid warming devices available for patients.
17. Illustrate basic competence in preparing the TEE machine for patient use within the
cardiovascular operating room.
18. Demonstrate knowledge base by properly assisting the anesthesiologist or anesthesia resident with inserting central venous catheter (cordis) kits.
19. Illustrate competence with properly assisting the anesthesiologist or anesthesia resident with swan-ganz placement.
20. Recognize the need for blood products that align with AABB standards of care.
21. Properly demonstrate the setup and breakdown of the Belmont FMS rapid infuser.
22. Describe and recite the locations of off-site anesthesia practices such as EP Lab, Cath Lab, MRI, Radiology, and GI Lab. Approved for Online Delivery?: No Course Outline:
