CJ 135 - Juvenile Residential Services Description This course is an exploration of the unique dynamics within juvenile facilities, and is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and tools needed to provide services and custodial care to youth in a residential setting. A thorough examination of the juvenile justice system will embody the challenges juveniles face in a residential setting. A strong emphasis will be placed on custodial care, behavior modification, and de-escalation techniques. 2. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of accepted principles and practices of guidance and treatment related to the rehabilitation of delinquent, emotionally impaired, mentally ill, and socially maladjusted adolescents.
3. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of crisis management, crisis prevention, de-escalation and restraint techniques applicable to the juvenile residential setting.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development and of the programs available to prevent and reduce delinquency and help residential youth to reenter society and build successful futures.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practice of casework and standard format and content of case notes.
6. Demonstrate an ability to gain the respect, confidence, and cooperation of youth; interact with youth with problems in a positive, patient, and caring manner while maintaining appropriate discipline and structure.
7. Create a written summary of the main ideas extracted from the information gathered.
