AUT 180 - Applied Auto Servicing


Description
This course provides students with real-world experience in automotive service and repair.  Students practice inspection, diagnosis, and service procedures.  Students learn and apply effective service-management concepts, including repair order processing, time management, and customer service.

  1. Complete customer repair orders on a computer-based shop management system, including the applicable cause, complaint, and correction.
  2. Demonstrate proper service procedures in a variety of automotive systems.
  3. Demonstrate proper work habits and customer service procedures while performing work on customer vehicles
  4. Use well-designed search strategies to gather data and information. 
  5. Clearly and completely state and describe a problem/issue.

Course Outline:
I. Vehicle Service

A. Students will perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on customer vehicles.

II. Service Management

A. Students will participate in repair order construction and processing that is typically expected of a professional automotive technician.

III. Individual Lab Experiments

A. Students will perform review laboratory experiments which were previously performed during normal class time, but require extra practice.  These will be completed when time does not conflict with customer scheduling.

IV. Entry-Level ASE Testing

A. Students may participate in Student ASE Certification testing in all areas that match each individual’s course history.
