CIS 170 - Microsoft Access Database I


Description
This course provides students with the opportunity to learn and use Microsoft Access in a hands-on environment. Students learn how to build databases that contain tables, forms, reports, and queries. A brief introduction to database design is presented, but this course is intended to serve the needs of Microsoft Access database users, not developers who design and build databases.

  1. Describe the essential characteristics of a database.

  2. Explain how Microsoft Access differs from a enterprise-level database system such as Oracle or MySQL.

  3. Create and edit table structures given a set of specifications.

  4. Establish relationships between tables where appropriate.

  5. Generate and edit table interfaces (forms and reports) given a set of specifications.

  6. Create and edit queries (selection, projection, and join) to specifications.

  7. Add, edit, delete and search for data in one or more tables within an Access database.

  8. Develop a plan to implement a solution to a problem or issue.

  9. Complete work accurately, with attention to detail.
