CIS 266 - Computer Servicing II / A+ Software


Description
In this course, students learn how to install, configure and troubleshoot operating systems used on personal computers and mobile devices. Other topics include software troubleshooting, security, cloud computing, and operational procedures.  Students devote time to software troubleshooting.

The course prepares students to take the Computing Technology Industry Association’s (CompTIA) A + certification exam.

  1. Compare and contrast features and requirements of different versions and editions of the Windows operating system in order to select the proper installation.
  2. Use the appropriate processes to install and configure an operating system.
  3. Use appropriate Microsoft operating system features and tools including command line tools.
  4. Understand how to use control panel utilities.
  5. Setup and configure Windows networking.  
  6. Identify and describe common security threats and vulnerabilities.
  7. Apply and use common prevention methods related to computer security.
  8. Explain basic features of a mobile operating system.  
  9. Troubleshoot software issues to fix common problems related to operating systems including updates and patches.
  10. Develop a plan to implement a solution to a problem or issue. 
  11. Identify quality sources for data and information pertinent to a problem or issue being examined.
