CA 160 - Ice Carving Basics


Description
CA 160 is an introductory ice carving course where students learn ice sculpting using a standard ice block, acquiring essential skills that form the foundation of ice sculpting mastery. Students will learn and develop basic techniques, from understanding the intricacies of form to practicing precision cuts.

In CA 160, you will also gain exposure to the specialized tools and equipment essential for ice carving and learn the safety procedures that ensure a secure and enjoyable ice sculpting experience. Guided by your instructor, who prioritizes safety, you can navigate the world of ice sculpting confidently, allowing you to nurture your artistic exploration, transforming ice into unique, captivating creations in a chilled yet vibrant atmosphere.

  1. Demonstrate the proper maintenance and safety procedures involved in the equipment used in ice carving [demonstrated through Checklist].
  2. Demonstrate the proper use of texturing ice using various ice chisels and electric equipment [demonstrated through Individual Project].
  3. Demonstrate the ability to carve a piece of ice [demonstrated through the Final Practical Exam].
  4. Demonstrate different applications of ice sculpting in various settings (buffet centerpieces, glasses, bars, etc.) [demonstrated through Individual Projects].
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the eleven systematic steps of ice carving [demonstrated through Quiz].
  6. Discuss the three methods of using template designs and applying the templates for an ice sculpture [demonstrated through Quiz].
  7. Demonstrate the different types of fusing [demonstrated through Individual Projects].
