Description
This course focuses on basic drawing techniques, applied to still life and portrait study, using black and white media. This course is offered to students needing to fulfill a drawing requirement. Emphasis is placed on rigor and acquiring skills to build a strong portfolio for transfer to a four-year institution.

2. Correctly follow the drawing process through the sequential steps of thumbnail sketches to the final product.

5. Explore traditional technical and conceptual approaches to drawing.

8. Create a written summary of the main ideas extracted from information gathered.

I. Composition - design elements, negative space/shape

II. Gesture - line, mass, combination

III. Measurement and Proportion - sighting techniques, angles, axis and symmetry, transparent construction

IV. Contour Line - line quality, line weight

V. Linear Perspective - 1 pt. perspective, 2 pt. perspective, ellipses and cylinders

VI. Planar Analysis - shape and plane, structural line

VII. Value - six categories of light, value scales, local value, additive technique (render, parallel line, cross-hatch), additive and subtractive technique

VIII. Portraiture - measurement, proportion of the human head
